Diesel Generation Adjustment Rate
Petersburg Municipal Power & Light is grateful for our customers’ electrical conservation efforts during December’s low temperatures and peak shaving events. Petersburg’s conservation during this time kept PMPL’s diesel generation low.
The diesel generation adjustment charge was approved by the Borough Assembly, and its purpose is to help the utility recover unbudgeted costs incurred when operating diesels for peak shaving. The diesel generation adjustment charge has been calculated to be 0.32 cents per kilowatt-hour, which is approximately 1/3 of a cent per kWh.
This rate will be applied to customers December’s kWh usage and will be added to January’s utility billing statements. You will be able to check the adjustment charge by multiplying the diesel generation adjustment rate by the electrical usage (kWh) at your home or business from your December utility bill.
To put this adjustment into perspective, a typical portable space heater is rated at approximately 1,500 watts (1.5 kW). If operated continuously for 24 hours, it would use about 36 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity. At the diesel generation adjustment rate of 0.32 cents per kWh, this would result in an additional charge of approximately $0.12 for that day attributable to the adjustment. Actual impacts vary based on individual usage patterns and appliance run times.
Thank you for making a conscious effort to conserve power in December. Your cooperation has helped to lower the impact of the diesel generation adjustment for your household and/or business, and for all Petersburg Municipal Power and Light customers.
