Assessment Information 2017-2023

2023 ASSESSMENTS

Residential Properties: Based on the property market analysis in Petersburg– trends from the past year and past 2-3 years show residential property value increase. This year property owners will see the assessed value increase on average by about 15% (majority ranging from 10%...20%) - depending on the characteristics of the property. Part of the increase includes land value updates as well. An increase this year for both land and improvements was necessary to meet the requirements set by the States Assessors Office. Based on our annual inspections some properties will see higher value changes than listed above due to construction related to their property – new deck; shed; new house, etc.

Commercial Properties: The only change for commercial properties will be land revaluation. Changes in land valuation range from 12%...20% on Mitkof Island. Some properties will see value change due to our annual inventory review, but it’s a small number of properties.

Your property has been assessed according to procedures established by State and local regulations. The regular property inspection cycle has remained generally the same during the pandemic, with Borough Contract Assessors doing more of their work remotely. Per Petersburg Municipal Code 4.24.150, it shall be the duty of every person receiving a notice of assessment to advise the assessor of any error or omission in the assessment of that person’s property, in order that the assessor may correct the same.

Any person who receives a notice, or whose name appears on the assessment roll, may appeal to the Board of Equalization with respect to any alleged error in the valuation. If you feel that your property has not been assessed at its full and true value, please complete an appeal form and file it with the finance office prior to the filing deadline of March 31, 2023 by 4:30 pm in our office.
